[ENGLISH] “There is no such thing as a coincidence”

[UN]PAIRED

An exhibition of women artists - by coincidence.

Less of a coincidence is that the participating artists bring together different parts of the world,   backgrounds, messages and aesthetics, all in their own way. The artists provide us with a range of delicate works that are pleasant to admire and confront us with distinct views about identity, language and culture.

Ding Ren presents photographs that pair small details from different places to bring West and East together through association.

Loreta Isac is our guest from Romania and shows personal fantasies in the form of illustration and drawing.

Balta's piece Dutch Avatars is a translation in 4 stenographic systems of the Dutch watchword "Je maintiendrai", result of which turns to look like an exotic calligraphy.
Marjolein Busstra's film Alter Ego’s is in turn a very realistic documentary - the author's alter ego’s as 4 portraits of women.

Monali Meher's video series "playing Bazaar", also in 4 sequences, is a portrait of us... Each one of us. We are constantly dealing with weighing and measuring in our lives today.

Samira Eskandarfar: "Rugs and Men" is actually a book, a photo album, within a video.
Ay Mey Lie writes essays and short stories, and the occasional poem. In her work she likes to combine her background in history and social sciences with everyday fascinations.
Fie Schouten [bass clarinet] and Eva van de Poll [violoncello] are two of the To be Sung trio, that will present a new program: "Men’s Landscapes" in June [with poetry by Judith Herzberg & Nazim Hikmet]

[NEDERLANDS] “Toeval bestaat niet"

[UN]PAIRED

De werken in de tentoonstelling zijn allen door vrouwen gemaakt, maar dat is puur toeval.

De deelnemers hebben vooral gemeen dat ze twee verschillende [fysieke of mentale] wereld[del]en verbinden door gebruik van hun fantasie, observatievermogen en levenservaring.

De kunst in [UN]PAIRED brengt stukjes China, Roemenië, Frankrijk, Nederland, Turkije, Spanje, Colombia, Japan, India en Indonesië samen. Ondanks verschillen in medium, boodschap en esthetica, hebben de werken een bepaalde delicatesse, aandacht en intimiteit gemeen, gepaard aan een scherpe en niet sentimentele blik op identiteit, taal en cultuur.

Ding Ren [China/V.S./NL] presenteert foto's die paren details van verschillende plekken om op een associatieve manier het westen en het oosten samen te brengen.

Loreta Isac [Roemenië] toont fraaie illustraties vol personages uit haar fantasie die in en uit elkaar groeien.

Balta [Frankrijk/NL] vertaalt in Dutch Avatars de rijksspreuk "Je maintiendrai" in 4 stenografische systemen die op deze wijze lijken op een exotische kalligrafie.

Marjolein Busstra [NL] volgt 4 jonge vrouwen in haar documentaire Alter Ego's [24min]: Latife Simsek, Fleur Agema, Sharon Nunez en Tanja Nijmeijer, op zoek naar haar/hun identiteit.

Monali Meher's [India/NL] video series "playing Bazaar" is ook een portret in 4 delen. Een portret van onzelf. We zijn telkens bezig met meten en wegen in ons dagelijks leven.

Samira Eskandarfar [Iran]'s "Rugs and Men" is een boek en fotoalbum in een video.
Ay Mey Lie [NL] schrijft essays en korte verhalen, ook gedichten. Ze combineert in haar werk haar achtergrond in geschiedenis en sociologie met alledagse fascinaties.
