The seventh time itch
I overheard a conversation last Friday @ Kulter. What does Kulter mean? Not the format or the network or the place... Just the word. It looks a bit harsh, but its also easily associated with Culture, but then nicer sounding. To save you all some time I typed it in in Google:
*Kulter means cultivator in Belgian
*Kulter is a jeans type, fabricated by Diesel
*Den Kulter is a place in Belgium
Somehow it didn’t at all surprise me that Den Kulter is situated next to the pittoresque village of Jeuk, meaning Itch in Dutch.
So now you know... Let’s move on.
Inge van der Ven has curated Kulter. #07, obviously with a lot of fun. All the works were fresh and playful, without being superficial. The beautiful multi-layered landscapes of Laurens Hensbergen, expressed the physical joy of painting. The joy of working with oil paint, creating layer after layer. The thicker the paint becomes, the more transparent the image.
Downright humourous was the installation by Mees de Jong, who had selected all words with a negative connotation out of the Dutch Dictionary, from begrensd to zakbreuk.
Katharina Galland had constructed a sort of pencil drawing with acryllated barbed wire. It is the must see of this exhibition, especially because, after it is torn from the walls, it will be gone forever. Just like the beautiful music and voice of Maartje Teussink, although she’ll be back for sure, just like us.
From November on Kulter is moving next door to Kinkerstraat 12-A. A nice period has ended, a new one will certainly begin.
