The two artists first met during their MFA at the Dutch Art Institute in Enschede (NL) in 1996. They exhibited together once before, “Original Painters” in Ateliers´93 in Hengelo (NL) in 1998. “Available” consists of a wall piece, two floor pieces (indoors/outdoors), an artist´s film screening and a performance.

Exhibition, 18.11-16.12.2012:

The biblical subject of the “Flight into Egypt” was quite popular in art. It used to identify the Holy Family with the destiny of those who need to emigrate, often due to political repression.

In his painting with the same title (2012, mixed media on canvas, 170 X 214 cm), Vicente Fita Botet explores the Christmas iconology. In addition, he copies bank and supermarket logos referring to the typical consumerism of this time of the year.

By juxtaposing a large amount of images in many layers of paint, the application of different techniques and the use of bright colours, he creates a vibrant baroque composition with obvious affinities with Pop-Art, not without irony and melancholia, however.

Steini Thorsson presents two parts of his ongoing project “Personal Collection”, where his principle is that his remainings of consumption are of cultural value. In his way he questions the position of the artist and the artwork. The shown items of the “Personal Collection” are socks and houses of dung. “The Socks”, 2011 are four pairs of worn out socks, filled up with polyurethane foam in the shape of his own feet.

In the garden, “Houses”, 2012, two wooden constructions (60 x 35 x 35 cm) will be placed containing his own dried excrement. He approaches recycling as an alternative to consumerism with lots of humor and some abject cynicism.

Film programme, 30.11.2012:

“Document Múli I”, 2011, 4´43 Steini Thorsson

“Document Múli II”, 2011, 3´33,Steini Thorsson

“Untitled/Tithed”, 2011, 5´19, Vicente Fita Botet

“Plan B (An Itinerary)”, 2012, 15´57, Vicente Fita Botet

Steini´s films are visual poems. They are recorded in open country in a dreamlike setting during a summer night, searching for the light at the coast of Iceland. Featuring Karin Leening.

Vicente experiments in rhythm and montage. His two films are descriptions of journeys between Spain and The Netherlands by van.

“Untitled/Tithed” is made of pictures with music of Johann Strauss, while “Plan B (An Itinerary)” is made of text with a soundtrack by Oren Banai.

“Untitled/Tithed” has been selected for the 41th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2012.

The screening of  “Múli I”, “Múli II” and “Plan B (An Itinerary)” will be a world premiere.

Performance, 14.12.2012:

“The turntable and the rotating Christmas images device operated”.

Light-jockey Steini will get everyone in the mood for Christmas!
