MAD PROPS

Mexico gallery in Leeds [UK] is run by 11 artists and curators.

For there very first exhibition MAD PROPS, Mexico asked artist run initiatives from all over Europe to send them pictures of the locations and to tell them about the way they run the initiatives.

Kulter liked the concept very much and contributed to MAD PROPS by sending photographs and exchanging emails.

Excepts of the communication:
[...] Dear Julie,

It has now been nearly 2 weeks since our opening event for the ' Mad Props' show. The doors opened at midnight  as soon as the socks were on the railings outside! and we had a great number of visitors to the event - many took an encouraging interest in the connections we have drawn with other spaces and art collectives around the globe. For our first show as Mexico we are all really pleased with the results and the feedback, you sent us a lot, and we are really grateful! we are in the process of archiving everything and building office space / other furniture for future events so you can be sure that your influences will continue to be considered as our space grows.

For us, one of the most important aspects we have realised after Mad props is that we hope to continue to establish our events and shows while holding onto many of the contributions we received at the start of this project, not just the details and artefacts that were sent to us but also the dialogues we have started with the groups. Concept MAD PROPS
Our opening project invites the spaces and groups whose program or practice we admire and ethos we relate to, to contribute elements of their spaces to our own. Operating within a condensed time period of eight months, this initial project seeks to examine, and experiment with, established models in the hope to contextualise our activity.

Recognising the need to share with and learn from our contemporaries as well as the inevitable assimilation, appropriation and replication that occurs during this process. Mad Props seeks to make more visible the support structures and interdependency that creative practice relies upon.
