PALATTI in KULTER.:
Palatti is a nomadic collective of artists who organize exhibitions and residencies on specific sites in an International context. Palatti gathers once a year to make site-specific works or new work inspired by the surrounding location – Kosovo, China, Argentina,Turkey...
Last Autumn 2010, Palatti’s artists : Audrey Bakx, Anna Bas Backer, Betty Ras, Gerardo Gómez Tonda and Sara Pape García worked for several weeks in Istanbul, Turkey. They made a site specific project for Art Pie’s first Edition in Istanbul. The exhibition took part within the Tüyap art fair : in total 18 Dutch art initiatives were invited who each had a space in a 11.000 m2 hall.
In Istanbul, Palatti worked in the production space of Caravansarai’s artist residency. Situated in Karaköy, a neighbourhood filled with small shops and peddlers walking around.
For several weeks, the artists built up their Palatti-working space as they gradually discovered more about the city. This new surrounding was their lead to new work, finding their inspiration from byzantine patterns, fish markets, carpets, new sounds and cultural habits.
This May 2011, Palatti meets up again in Kulter in Amsterdam. Works from the Istanbul Art Fair show will be presented together with new works and contrasting inputs. On the opening day, a ‘black market’ will be held, where for a small price or exchange, the artists will sell handmade and assembled objects. The opening at Kulter coincides with Art Amsterdam.
