OPENING Kulter. #15 | GARDEN PARTY
It took me a while to find my way to the new Kulter hang-out in Bos en Lommer. After two wrong turns I found it on the corner of a side street of the Admiraal de Ruyterweg.
Apparently they have been here since two weeks, so the announced ‘Garden party’, can be considered as grand opening. Kulter 2.0 is new place with large windows towards the street and an open garden at the back.
After some hussling with the wind shields in the garden, the party got started.
Music was played by Amsterdam based indie-band Labasheeda. Their acoustic performance was a bit loose, but won the audience over eventually with melancholic intertwined guitar melodies. Think of the Cure or Sonic Youth. 29th of July they’ll be playing the main hall of Paradiso. Definitely worth to check out!
Inside Kulter was a little shop of treasures: Embroided butterflies on a t-shirt. Buttons on a ring, barbies on a broche and a neclace made of elastics.
For anyone who wants to buy a unique piece of jewellery, and does want to pay more than a standard ring or necklace, (prices range from 20-80 €) this is the deal!
The drawings of Jacco de Jager presented a male counterpart to the exhibition. Jacco draws portraits with a twist. It seems as if he starts with the image of an arbitray person, and then let’s his inspiration go. The drawings are therefore (or maybe inspite of that), pleasantly ambiguous. You never know whether it is a sad or happy image, and more important, you don’t care. This ambiguousness is further amplified by the playful presentation with all kinds of different frames.
All in all a nice ‘revoir’, with Kulter. We’ll be back!
